There are of course many different accents in the world but my post today concentrates on different English accents in the world, not including the UK, as I briefly discussed UK accents in an earlier post.
So G’day Everyone as they say in Australia or Hello Everyone.
Regions in the World
The principal regions in the world where there are different accents for the English language are as follows:-
- North America
- South of the Equator – Southern Hemisphere
Countries within the Regions
- United States
- West Indies
- India and South Asia
- Hong Kong
South of the Equator – Southern Hemisphere
- New Zealand
- South Africa
The English accents in each of the countries listed above are very different and in some cases it is difficult to understand the English even for an Englishman or American.
This actually raises the question as to what accent your tutor for learning English should ideally have.
In my opinion either a native English speaker from the UK or America or Australia.
However please bear in mind that the accent that your tutor has will have a strong influence on your accent and the way that you pronounce English words.
Appreciating the fact that a good English tutor with a good English accent may not be available where you live, why not take advantage of the facilities of online learning which is available through modern technology where you will be able to learn how to speak good English and pronounce the words clearly.
Whether or not you have a good English tutor near you, online learning is a very convenient way of learning English. One such resource may be found here in my review of an organisation providing first class facilities for learning English online.

I hope this has helped you to understand some of the different accents in the world.
As you will have heard from the examples above there is a tremendous variation in the way English words are pronounced, it is therefore important that you select a source for learning English where the tuition is conducted preferably by an native English speaker from the UK or the USA or Australia, as mentioned earlier.
